Louis Rose successfully negotiated a groundwater discharge permit renewal, including closure requirements, for a New Mexico mine tailing facility.  The permit renewal had been pending before the New Mexico Environment Department for over 4 years.  The mine has been the subject of substantial environmental group interest for the last several years and is currently undergoing a federal CERCLA remedial investigation and feasibility study.  Mr. Rose, in conjunction with the company’s environmental officials and expert staff, negotiated permit conditions that authorize the mine to continue its current operations and avoid an expensive and potentially devastating requirement to investigate and remediate ground water concentrations at the site prior to the completion of the federal CERCLA action.
