Personal Insurance Credit Information Act

Personal Insurance Credit Information Act

After several years of defeating proposals considered by the state legislature to ban the use of credit scores in underwriting and rating auto and homeowners insurance in New Mexico, Gary Kilpatric worked with the state superintendent of insurance to create a task force of members of the insurance industry and representatives of consumer groups to draft legislation which would allow for the use of credit scores with certain consumer protections.  Mr. Kilpatric led a coalition of insurance industry lobbyists in the successful passage of the Personal Insurance Credit Information Act which created a statutory framework for the use of credit scores for the underwriting and rating of personal lines of insurance.
